Breathing in, Breathing Out

Do you feel that breeze?
A quiet hush of the holy warms upon my cheeks
Embracing the soul in welcoming comfort
Feel that?
The sense of all-consuming peace, swaying
Rests heavy on my brow.
I’m breathing in
Breathing out.
Serenity

Do you see it?
There is a brightness
Penetrating woeful darkness
Pointing me again to truth
A vibrant sword of yellow-white flickering
With specks of glory dust
See it?
The sense of calm
Rests softly on my bosom.
I’m breathing in
Breathing out
Distillation

Do you hear that song?
A sacred melody soaring higher
Pulls this heart to the center of wholeness
Hear it?
The sense of softly falling rain
Gently washing away the chaos stain
Rests lightly on my soul
I’m breathing in
Breathing out
Destiny

Do you smell this perfumed renewal?
An incense of feeble prayers mixed with the
Rain-washed sorrows of rose
And the memory of myrrh
Smell it?
The sense of love no longer entombed
But now a fragrant freedom offering
I’m breathing in
Breathing out
Restoration

Do you taste joyful bloom of spring?
A velvet honey-sweet of brokenness
Shooting up from the solemn ground
Taste it?
The sense of hope a nimble lavender sugar enveloping
Every fiber of my being
I’m breathing in
Breathing out
Belonging

What It Means to Help Children Dream

Wild Goslings by Brandy Walker
Wild Goslings by Brandy Walker

I never really had a dream to write.  It was just something I discovered I loved to do.  The more I wrote, the more I saw expression of the hidden dreams I’d been holding on to.  This year, I have taken on more writing challenges I never would have imagined.  I joined Story 101 with dreamfire-builder-life-affirmer, Elora.

Through Story 101 sessions, I also met another wonderful dream-firestarter, Brandy, and somehow, I said yes to being a contributing writer for Wild Goslings, a book on engaging children in the mysteries of God in ways that allow them to experience God without religious constraints.  To borrow a term from across the waters in England … I was and still am “gobsmacked.”  I never imagined I would have stepped out of my zone of comfort to write on something about which I care deeply and that matters to my soul – encouraging the dreamers to make those imaginative ideas tangible realities.  This, my friends, is the essence of how we help our children dream too.  Continue reading What It Means to Help Children Dream

When the Seed Dies …

The Life of a Seed …

35 But someone may ask, “How will the dead be raised? What kind of bodies will they have?” 36 What a foolish question! When you put a seed into the ground, it doesn’t grow into a plant unless it dies first. 37 And what you put in the ground is not the plant that will grow, but only a bare seed of wheat or whatever you are planting. 38 Then God gives it the new body he wants it to have. A different plant grows from each kind of seed. 1 Corinthians 15

I’ve been reading the bible all my life, and how did I miss this ?!? In God’s own time he reveals what we are to know at just the right time we are meant to know it.  For me that day is today.

Sometimes You Want to Move Forward

Sometimes you want to move forward, but you can’t.  Sometimes you want the words to spill onto the page in perfect form igniting the senses, but they don’t.  Sometimes, sometimes, just…sometimes.  This is one of those moments.  Maybe you’ve been there too.  What do we do? We just walk it out.  Acknowledge that it may not be the best day, but you’re still here on the earth – alive and breathing.  Nothing could be better than that, and tomorrow will be different.  A new hope, a new spring, a newness will come upon you if you look for it and believe.

Sometimes in the Random

Ever catch a fleeting glimpse of yourself – the real self – like a flash of lightning?  In an instant you see a picture of what who you could be, but in that same instant it’s gone.  You grasp at it.  Futile. Those moments can be frustrating, but I’m learning if I settle into the unrest of the moment, the flash will come again.  It will stay moments longer.  The more I give myself to being in the stillness of the chaos; those flashes turn to steady-staying light, and I can focus on the forming me.  Then comes that moment.  You know the one.  It’s the AHA! moment of the soul.  The moment you realize, “this is who I really am!  Why have I been hiding?”  Some days are harder than others.  Some days are drudgery.  You make yourself push through the foggy unclear.  And some days you just have to crash your own life. I do mean literally.
