An Unconventional Love Letter {Real Talk Tuesday}

by Jennifer Upton
by Jennifer Upton

If kindness is currency for the heart, then love letters are gold for the soul.  In this week’s Real Talk Tuesday Link Up our theme is #LoveLetters.  My love letter is a bit unconventional, however, it is a letter of hope, of restoration, of truth, of healing, and of love for the here and now.

“If i like a moment, i don’t like to have the distraction, so i stay in it”

dear heart,

in mending the soul, we learn to face the truth about our abuse.  it is hard.  life sucks.  brokenness.  pain, violence, and not having a voice all suck.  just being real here, but when you’ve suffered abuse of any kind, that last thing you naturally want to do is face the dissonance of truth.  even if that truth will set you free. there is a chord within that finds the entire process counter intuitive. Thirty Things I’ve Learned about Being God’s Beloved

I accepted a wonderful invitation to write a guest post in honor of Sarah McCartens‘s 30th birthday celebration. I met her through a story community- #Story101 with EloraNicole. Sarah invited her friends to join in writing 30 things they’ve learned, accepted, discovered, found, or know about life, living, and being. I loved this idea and knew I wanted wanted to write a post!

So, today I’ll be sharing my favorite things (words) all having to do with love, being, acceptance, and belonging. I hope you enjoy 30 things I’ve learned about being God’s Beloved. You can say them aloud with me. Be empowered because you are precious.

  1. I am fearfully and wonderfully made – a unique creation– and beautifully attractive because I am redeemed (Psalm 139).
  2. Nothing I can do will make God love me less.
  3. My dreams matter to the Creator, and He has really good plans for me.
  4. Experiences in life are not wasted.
  5. I am loved most ardently, and I belong.

Come on over and read the rest of my 30 Things @SarahMcCarten‘s blog – my new story-sister-writing-friend!

Maybe you have a story to tell what you’ve learned along the way of life. I’d love to hear about it.

A Blessing for the Beloved

I am a writer.  I am one of many.  And I’m totally okay that my writing may not “fit” anything typical.  Authenticity is beautiful.  This past weekend I attended what will go down in my life’s history as one of the more transformative retreats I’ve ever attended.  It was marked with fire, purpose, vision-casting, and lively community.

I am a member of Story 1o1/Story Sessions with Elora Nicole.  When I began my journey, I didn’t really know what to expect.  I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted.  I only knew I wanted to write, and write, and write.  But … I wanted to be in community.  Joining Story 101 was one of the best investments I’ve made in myself and my life.  I’ll share more on that experience later.  For today, I want to share with you a blessing on being the beloved – birthed from a moment of Shalom with BrandyGlows

Owning It – Just be real

Guess I really am writing a book now.  I just admitted and acknowledged it before another human being who was neither a friend nor a family member.  It was the barista at a local coffee shop.  She actually asked me what I was studying.  Score one for looking younger than I really am!  But, I digress.  I told her I wasn’t studying.

“I used to be a teacher. And now I’m not teaching.  I’m working on a book.”  Yup.  There they were hanging in the air.  Words strung together inciting ownership and angst.  I had just admitted to another soul why I was there at the coffee shop.  There was no denying I said it.  It was too late.  I couldn’t believe I spilled the beans and almost without hesitation.  Her response? “Oh really, that’s cool.  What’s it going to be about?” I was nearly dumbfounded.

His Voice Is Our Assurance

19 People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. 20 Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

~Isaiah 30

It is amazing that God desires relationship with every single one of us. Because of Jesus, we have unfettered access to God. Because of the blood of Jesus, we have restoration. Because of the cross of Christ, we can be sons and daughters of the King. Yes, God is gracious. He wants to restore each of us to wholeness. Come; see what God is all about. He’s been waiting for you. His love runs deep. His love runs wide. Nothing you can do will make Him love you less. God can handle your past, your present, and your future. You don’t have to carry that weight anymore. Choose life in Christ – lovingly eternal. Continue reading His Voice Is Our Assurance
