Psalm 94 – Blessed Is the Man

The Psalms are always a source of hope, peace, and cementing the foundation of faith in the Christian walk.  God’s word really is alive and active.  It cuts through the yuck and goes straight to our spirit and mind.  It is so important to stay in the Word of God.  It reminds us whose we are, who God is, and who He created and redeemed us to be.  It gives wisdom and direction.  Reading Psalm 94 today renewed hope in me.  What really caught my heart were verses 12-14.  It says, “Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord,
And teach out of Your law, That You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked. For the Lord will not cast off His people,
Nor will He forsake His inheritance (NKJV).”  The rest of the Psalm is very powerful, but these three verses stood out to me.  When I overwhelmed, feeling ignorant, naïve, or in need of His wisdom and leadership –His word remains eternal and gives me hope.  There is a blessing when we are instructed by the Lord out of His law.  This is a good thing.  It reminded me of the new testament where Jesus told the disciples in John 16: 13-14, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”  God didn’t leave us in this world to fend for ourselves.  Thank you God for that.  He wants us to fully rely on Him, to be taught by Him, and to be lead by Him.  Jesus also said to His disciples in John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you (NKJV).”

Surely the Lord knows best, and when we rely on Him, we learn as He would have us to learn.  I am struck in amazement that there is a blessing in being taught by God.  He is holy, just, true, kind, gracious, and merciful.  That is the foundation He builds in us.  If the foundation is wrong, He speaks is truth to those places so then can be made right, level, and aligned with Him.  Today I am grateful for His word because He is realigning my thoughts so that I can be in agreement with Him.  My circumstances may not change, but my perspective can change so that I can see things with God’s perspective and insight.  I love how it further says in verse 13 that God wants to give us rest I from day of adversity.  None of us will leave this earth unscathed, but we can have rest through every trial.  We can ask God for His perspective on what’s going on around us or in us.  We can ask God for His truth.  We can, as Proverbs says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths (NKJV).”  Leaning on God for what we need brings peace and His direction.  Today I’m choosing to believe God’s goodness.  I am choosing to believe He knows my end from my beginning, and that He will lead me rightly.  I can trust Him.

My prayer today:  Lord, thank you for your Word.  Thank you that it is Light and Life for my soul.  Thank you God that you instruct my heart out of your law and your ways.  Thank you for the blessing that comes from being lead by you.  May it increase my faith and trust in you today.  May it draw me nearer to You.  May I grow to know you more deeply like never before.  Keep shining your Light Lord that I may see.  Let Your Word, God, always be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  Lord, I submit to your authority and rule over my life today and every day.  You are my Shepherd.  Yours, God, is the Voice I need to hear.  Lord, fill me again with your Holy Spirit.  Help me to see things the way you do.  I thank you for your Truth and you are writing your laws on my heart that I might walk uprightly before.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
