A Soft Place to Land {Five Minute Friday}

I wish for a soft place to land
A home in which embrace is common
And despair is driven to the ground
With the stake of hope

I wish for open arms welcoming
The whole of this human essence
Whimsical, musical, ardent, passionate
And sometimes afraid.

Breathing Alive

I originally posted this in November 2013, but it still resonates with me, so here it is again.  Because some words never lose their power.

fly marvia davidsonBreak out of your comfort zone. You were made for more, so much more. Have you purposefully chosen to live in the in between moments? Now’s a good time to take stock of what really matters. Now is a good time to allow discomfort to propel you to the more your life was designed for.

Think of this … You’ll land the dream job, then what? You’ll get the salary you want, then what? You’ll pay off your debts, then what? You’ll do that dream thing you’ve been wanting to for years, and then what?  You’ll break barriers and tear down walls that lead to freedom, and then what?  Will you have “arrived?”

Then what???

Freely Write the Truth {Tell the Story}

no striving marvia davidson

To walk by faith and not by sight, takes every ounce of what little belief I have but I’m going to hold faith and believe anyway. This business of wrestling with God till He answers is all I have for the present moment. No human intervention will suffice. No human help will suffice. What I need now is the fullness and presence of God, for in Him is all I need. This is not just some pie in the sky statement. It is matter of fact. It is the essence of my faith and believing.

Is God who He says He is? Does God really do what He says He can do? Can I really trust God? Can I tell Him how I really feel without reprisal? These are not indictments against the character of God. Because, let’s be honest, who would want to be in relationship with a god you fear will harm you or trample your will. Think about it. I’m not asking you to agree. I’m telling you my story and the rocky bumps jutting up from the ground of my not-so-strong faith. I am imperfect. I don’t always believe right or well. Sometimes I chose the lie. Sometimes I have doubted God. Does this make me any less of a Christ follower? Does it condemn me to a life in hell? Does it steal me away from faith? No. Continue reading Freely Write the Truth {Tell the Story}

An Unconventional Love Letter {Real Talk Tuesday}

by Jennifer Upton

If kindness is currency for the heart, then love letters are gold for the soul.  In this week’s Real Talk Tuesday Link Up our theme is #LoveLetters.  My love letter is a bit unconventional, however, it is a letter of hope, of restoration, of truth, of healing, and of love for the here and now.

“If i like a moment, i don’t like to have the distraction, so i stay in it”

dear heart,

in mending the soul, we learn to face the truth about our abuse.  it is hard.  life sucks.  brokenness.  pain, violence, and not having a voice all suck.  just being real here, but when you’ve suffered abuse of any kind, that last thing you naturally want to do is face the dissonance of truth.  even if that truth will set you free. there is a chord within that finds the entire process counter intuitive.
